Recent events have had a profound effect on the UK. We had the terrorist bombing in Manchester, the further attacks in London and now this tragedy of the tower block catching fire. To the outside world we Brits must seem under threat and reeling, like a boxer against the ropes, but in fact the opposite is closer to the truth.
The two terrorist attacks we faced, like others before have been met with stoic resilience, never allowing the evil intentions of a few misguided individuals to prevent us living our lives the way we want. Their purpose, the purpose of any terrorist is to terrorise, to disrupt our daily routine, to make us so fearful that we submit. That will never happen. We will carry on and this has been demonstrated by life in London and Manchester continuing with nothing but a shrug of the shoulders and a “So what!” by the public. That’s the effect these attacks have had upon us. Yes for a few days we do things a little more cautiously but do we stop our routine, no.
There has been another more obvious effect to these attacks which was also demonstrated over the past day or two after the devastating fire in London. All these events have brought the best out of the community around them. It has shown that there is real concern in the people who live in these areas in how they rallied around to help those affected by said events. As tragic and terrible as these events have been it has been heart warming to see people helping out with no thought for themselves.
We have seen the evil that men do and I’m sure we will be witness to so much more but our spirit will not dampen, our light will not be extinguished by it. We will come together, whatever our colour, creed or religion, we are all one race, the human race and we will continue.
